Problem Observed
Soil quality directly affects crop productivity, but many sustainable soil-enhancement methods are not well understood at the local level. Natural materials behave differently across soil types and conditions.
Project Focus
This project explored how biochar interacts with soil and how its properties can support sustainable agriculture when applied thoughtfully.
Approach
- Observed soil behavior with and without biochar integration
- Studied basic biological and chemical properties influencing soil health
- Identified measurable factors such as water retention and soil texture
- Translated observations into structured data points for comparison
Platform
Presented at the IRIS National Science Fair
What I Learned
- How observation can be converted into measurable variables
- The importance of controlled comparison when working with natural systems
- How biology and data analysis complement each other
Why sustainability solutions must be locally adaptable rather than one-size-fits-all
